New Town, New Zoo

One of the first things I did when we were talking about moving to Boise was to research zoos in the area. Surprising, I know. Thankfully there is a zoo right in Boise, Zoo Boise. We were at the zoo within days of getting into town. Again, surprising, I know.

Lily’s sleep schedule was all off from the trip so she slept all the way to the zoo and than we had to wake her up once we got inside.

She was really groggy at first and really couldn’t care less about the monkeys that we tried to show her. Then we found the Coati, which was at our zoo in Fresno, so she was very excited about seeing a animal that was familiar.

I had a lot of trouble taking pictures of a lot of the animals, because Zoo Boise has a lot of their exhibits behind glass and or mess/chain link.

Thankfully Zoo Boise also has a lot of statues.

Lil wouldn’t be happy if she couldn’t feed some statues.

They also had the same komodo dragon statue that the Fresno Zoo has. He was behind a rope though, so he had to starve.

Zoo Boise has some animals that we hadn’t seen before and that was very cool.

They don’t have a petting zoo, but you can feed the goats and sheep from a little candy vending machine full of little goat food pellets.

Lily wanted no part of feeding the goats, but Waldo tried really hard to convince her that it was safe.

Waldo became an expert at the goat feeding.

Zoo Boise has a awesome seasonal butterfly exhibit that I’ll blog about separately because I can’t narrow down the pictures to a reasonable amount.

They also have PENGUINS! I’ve never seen penguins in person before. They are very cool.

They also have very majestic eagles and Lions, both of which I’ve never seen before.

Lil got a stuffed buddy at the gift shop before we left.

All in all it was a very successful trip.  A lot of the zoo is a little old fashion and in need of upgrades, but they are working on it.  They have a wonderful Africa area and they have started working on a Asia (I think) area.  I’m so happy that there’s a zoo here since that is one of our favorite things to do together as a family.

Stinky feet

Lily has a bad habit of pushing her feet in my face, gently kicking me in the chest and putting her feet on the table. All of these things we are always working on, but it’s slowing going. Anyway one day a few months ago she was sitting on my lap and kept putting her feet in my face, at one point I smelled them and made a gagging sound. She thought this was the funniest thing ever and moved down to her chair to do it herself.

Lily loves watching this video and has recreated it a few times. It’s so funny.

Random Mobile Shots

There is a playground around the corner from our new house.  None of the playgrounds around here swings, which is a bummer, but we make due.  If Lil really wants to swing we can go to one of the schools that are pretty close by.

I don't know where she got the thumbs up, but this was a totally natural shot. I love it.

One Last, One More Trip to The Fresno Zoo

We wanted to go to the zoo one last time before we moved and we wanted to take Olivia again because of how much fun Lily and Livi have been having together.  I started to worry that we weren’t going to be able to go because Waldo couldn’t take the time off of work, but Jolene (my Sister) could.  Yay.

I don’t think Livi gets why Lily loves the statues so much.

We timed it just right so that we could feed the giraffes again.

I really thought she was going to do it, she’s done it before.

Lil was NOT into it this time.

We saw a peacock time time. Because the peacocks roam freely around the zoo it’s very hit and miss whether or not you see them.

The Grizzly Bear usually just sleeps the whole time, but today he was almost putting on a show for us.

That was enough. Nap time.

The girls were watching the camel.  After they walked away the camel got in his little watering hole and splashed himself.  It was kind of neat.

This is the first time we’ve ever seen the baby venturing out on his own.

I’m so glad that we were able to go to the zoo one last time and I’m definitely glad I was able to spend time with my sister, niece and Mom before we left.  It wasn’t enough time, but it was a lot of fun. I miss you all so much!

Scissors are cool

Like a lot of kids I’m sure Lily is always trying to get our scissors.  She sees us using them and wants to try.  Of course we take the scissors away and try to explain.  When all of the school supplies started popping up at Target I noticed a set of kids scissors and grabbed them.  I think they are labeled for 3 or 4 year olds, but I’m a rebel and got them for my 2 1/2 year old.  Because of the move and whatnot the scissors have been in my craft tub for a month or two.  Well last week I got them out and Lily was so excited to try them.

I didn’t have to give her much instruction.  I think she’s been paying attention when we use them because she pretty much knew exactly what to do with them.

First time using scissors

First time using scissors

She is mostly doing single cuts so far.

First time using scissors

I tried to show her how to make one cut after another to you know cut the paper in half or something, but she is much more into fringe right now.

In the week or so that we’ve had the scissors in our lives, we’ve had many “cutting days” (her name for it) and she’s progressed from just fringe to confetti.

OMG the small triangles, they are all over the floor. I think they might be taking over the world.
