Aloha Friday 6-3-09

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So Kailani thought that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting, too. I like the idea, therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.  Be sure to check Kailani out.

As a renter, when you move out of a place do you super clean it or do you just do the say bathroom and kitchen?

If anyone is a landlord what do you expect?

As followers of this blog know we just moved.  We knew I wouldn’t really be able to do much because of Lily so we enlisted the help of some friends.  We paid them to help so they were willing to go just about as far as I wanted.   But by half way through the day they were all telling me that no one cleans as much as I wanted and no one expects it.  I wanted wall washed and the carpets cleaned and the whole nine yards.  We comprimised on a few points but overall I got my way.  So I want to know what others do.

Girl Talk Thursday-Booze

Mommy Melee started Girl Talk Thursday. Go show her some love and check out Mr. Linky.

Booze, booze and more booze is the topic this week.

I am not a big drinker, that isn’t to say that I don’t drink.  Oh how I love me some vodka with cranberry and lemon drops and a few others that I’m too sober to name right now.  I’ve had a glass of wine or two that I really enjoyed.  However I hate beer, I haven’t found one that I want to take more then a sip of.

I don’t like to drink hard stuff at home, I prefer a half empty bar (I don’t like big crowds).  At home I can never get the drinks to taste right.  We have wine at the house every once in a while but I’d rather have wine at a restaurant.  I’m just weird like that.

Since I’ve been pregnant and am now breastfeeding I haven’t had any booze in over a year.  Alcohol has never been that important to me.  I didn’t have my first taste till after my 21st birthday and wouldn’t know that I like vodka with cranberry if it weren’t for my buddy Jack.

Jack lived in my spare room for a while and we would go downtown during the week when his favorite bar was nice and quiet.  We’d have a drink or 12, play some pool and chat with the regulars.  It was fun.  Once Jack moved out I didn’t have a desire to keep going out on my own, that seemed like it would be no fun.  Besides who was going to make sure I got home safely and watch Eurotrip with me for the 150th time.  We have watched that movie so many times we know just were to fast forward because those parts just aren’t funny enough.

My Baby’s mind Monday

My friend Tatiana over at It was a Very Good Year started this meme. Each Monday you look inside your baby’s mind and let us know what you find. Be sure to go show her some love.

This week I was inspired by this picture.
I'm growing

Dear Mama,

Please take a good long look at the above picture and notice something.  I am now standing (with Daddy’s help, thank you Daddy) and the top of my head is over the dowel in my growth chart.  Please remember that on my 5 month birthday (10 days ago) I didn’t even come up to the bottom of the chart.  I may not have gained much weight this week, but I gained height.  Now go tell the doctor (whom I normally really like, she’s very nice) to stuff it.  I’m fine.  I’m petite and I like it that way.

I mean think about it.  I can still wear some of my newborn size clothes.  And you know how cute some of those are so that’s a good thing.  You’re getting your moneys worth out of those clothes, unlike some Mommy’s who get to dress their babies in something once and then they outgrow it.  You’re lucky.

I have included the picture from my 5 month birthday for easy comparison.

5 months old

Love,

Lily

p.s.  Just like you I look really good in dark pink.

Aloha Friday 5-29-09

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So Kailani thought that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting, too. I like the idea, therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

What is your go-to easy quick dinner?

Ours is a salad and soup (canned) but I’m always looking for better and more healthy ideas.

Thank you, thank you very much

Recently I was given two blogy awards.  I am so honored and surprised.

First Lindsey of A Kindred Spirit’s Thoughts gave me the 5 minutes for Mom Say it Forward Loyal Commenter award.  This is such a shock for me since up until a couple of months ago I was a serous lurker.

Thank you Lindsey.

Shari from A Psych Mommy nominated me for Mom of the Year

Rules for Mom of the Year Award:

Admit one thing you feel awful about involving being a mom. Get it off your shoulders. Once you’ve written it down, you are No Longer allowed to feel bad. It’s over with, it’s in the past. Remember, you’re a good mom!

Yesterday I put Lily on the couch in my Boppy so I could get her diaper bag refilled.  She was fussing but I could do it so much faster with two hands and she was safe (or so I thought).  The next thing I know she is on the floor.  Thankfully its only about 18 inches off the floor and babies are resilient.  But I felt so bad.  She was fine and done crying way before I was.

Remind yourself you are a good mom, list seven things you love about your kids, you love doing with your kids, or that your kids love about you. These are the things to remind yourself everyday that you Rock!

  1. I love Lily’s amazing toothless smile
  2. I love it when Lil’s nursing she will hold on to my shirt like a security blanket
  3. I love the little heart that forms in her ear if I hold her at the right angle (this one is really hard to explain, you kind of have to take my word for it)
  4. I love that I’m her favorite person in the world
  5. As much as I comment that I want to put her down more often when she’s asleep, I love that she sleeps best in my arms.
  6. I love taking a bath with her.  Its her favorite way to take a bath and I’m happy to do it.
  7. I love that when she wakes up she is all smiles.  I get more smiles in the first ten minutes she is awake then any other time.

Send this to five other Mom’s of the year that deserve credit for being great moms and remind them that they are the best moms they can be!! Remember to send them a note to let them know you’ve selected them, and add a link to the person who nominated you.

For the Mom of the Year award, I nominate:
Lindsey from A Kindred Spirit’s Thoughts

Tatiana from It was a very good year…

C from Random Thoughts and Musings From The Island

Sarah from The Ohana Mama

Stephanie from Metropolitan Mama
Thank you Shari
