Everyday Life – Laundry

I don’t have issues with laundry like a lot of people. I can admit it’s not my favorite thing in the world to do, but I don’t hate it like some people do. I would much rather do laundry than mop floors any day of the week. Gah, I hate doing floors.

Laundry, much like just about everything else in our lives I have worked really hard to make it as natural as possible. I searched high and low for good laundry soap. I have a hard time with soap because I don’t want my laundry to smell. Keep your flowery scents, your outdoor, cotton, fresh linen or what ever else you can think of scents, I don’t want them. I want my laundry to smell neutral and it’s hard to find. We have used a lot of different soaps and detergents over the years and have settled on Cal Ben 5 star soap.

I stopped using fabric softener years ago. Partially because I’ve heard it was full of nasty chemicals and was really bad for you and partially again for the smell thing. To make up for the lack of fabric softener liquid or sheets I add vinegar to my washer during the rinse. It really helps, but it’s not perfect.

A few months ago I read a blog and the blogger is a cloth diaperer and she uses wool balls in the dryer to help with the drying. I have heard of dryer balls before, but hadn’t put much thought into them. After reading that blog I started to really pay attention to dryer balls. A few weeks later I was offered the chance to test out some Woolzies wool dryer balls. They claim to help with static and wrinkles and to cut drying time by 25%.

I’ve used the Woolzies for about a month now and I have to say that I don’t really see the shortened drying time, but I have noticed a decrease in static and wrinkles and I so appreciate that. At first I didn’t think that I noticed any difference using the Woolzies so I did a few loads without them and that was when I really could tell the difference. I am now a wool dryer ball believer and use them every time.

I was sent a set of Woolzies wool dryer balls for free, but the opinions are all mine.

Lily and the big girl bike

Last summer we got Lil a balance bike and a few days later she saw a Hello Kitty Big Girl Bike at Target and has been talking about it every since. Because we had just bought the balance bike and well because she was too little for a Big Girl Bike we have been telling her that we will get it for her when the weather gets warmer this spring. As soon as we got paid this month we headed to Target and got the Hello Kitty Big Girl Bike. Lily was in heaven.

A few days before we bought the bike we ordered her a doll bike seat so her Buddies could go for a ride. This was a BIG hit.

Here’s Lil’s first ride.

She spent way more time using her breaks than going forward. But it didn’t take long to figure it out with Daddy’s help.

About 5 minutes later Lil was an expert (well almost).

The next day we searched high and low (I mean it, we went to I don’t know how many stores) to find elbow and knee pads. Hello Kitty of course. We finally found them at Walmart.

5 years

A few weeks ago Waldo and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary. When we woke up I told Waldo “happy anniversary” and he replied with his usual heart melting mushiness. “It’s great that we’ve been together for 5 almost 6 years and things are just the same; great, today as they were when we first realized there was something there”. Alright I did paraphrase a bit, but that was the jist. And his comment about ‘something there’ is because we were friends, really good friends for about 12 years before we went on a road trip together (not for the first time) and both of us realized that we were way more than friends.

I guess because we had 12 years of practice at being friends and we had that history (both of us going through some real big ups and downs and being there for each other) really helps. We knew what we were getting into and we knew we already got along.

When we had been together about 6 months one of our friends mentioned our honeymoon period and it probably ending soon. We are very happy to report that our honeymoon period never ended. Even though we spend literally 24/7 together we have the same great, close relationship we did when we first got married.

I love Waldo with all of my heart and I know he feels the same for me. I’m looking forward to seeing what the next 5 years brings along with the next 50.

So there was an octopus

We just can’t stop going to the Zoo and Aquarium. We went to the aquarium a week or so ago and had a blast.

We bought Lil a camera for Christmas because she loves to take pictures. She had a great time taking pictures at the aquarium.

The best part was the octopus. Every other time we’ve been there he’s just a glorified rock on the bottom of the exhibit if you can see him at all. This time he was showing off.

Random Mobile Shots

Lily really wanted to help me grate cheese the other day. She tried really hard, but the setup was terrible and she was bound for failure.

We made ice cream out of some of the snow. It was meh.

Doctor Lily loves to take care of all of us.

I braided Lil’s hair the other day. I was so happy with how it turned out. She made me take it right out. She is not into putting her hair up AT ALL.

First really good braid
